Lake of Hippopotamuses is a freshwater lake and national park in Burkina Faso, established in 1937 and recognized as the country's sole UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1977. Situated roughly 60 kilometers north of Bobo-Dioulasso, the 163-square-kilometer reserve encompasses a lake, surrounding marshes, and forests within the Black Volta River floodplain. The park supports a population of around 100 hippopotamuses and attracts approximately 1,000 eco-tourists annually. It holds additional significance as a designated Ramsar site, acknowledging its status as a wetland of international importance.

    Peace and quiet on the lakes, the boat kept a respectful distance from the hippo groups, but everything was easy to see. Beautiful experience in this open iron barge, built 100 years ago in Germany.

    its a lovely place 60 km from bobo dioulasso 15 km is off roading best time to visit is Jan to March when u can spot elephants as well
